Localisation Coordinator

Job description

The Company

Ferryhopper is an online travel company based in Athens, Greece. We specialise in ferry ticket sales, powered by our in-house search engine which compares ferry ticket prices and itineraries across 10 different countries, including Greece, Italy, Spain, and Turkey.

Ferryhopper has revolutionised the online ferry ticket booking process by simplifying all the complexities of ferry ticket selection: from itineraries to seats, cabins to motorbikes, and campervans to foot-passenger tickets.

Ferryhopper has a clear intention of becoming the Global Ferry Expert, and this can only be done with quality language deployments. Currently, the website and our other products are offered in up to 7 languages: Greek, English, French, Spanish, Italian, German, and Bulgarian. We are now looking to accelerate the deployment of further languages, and we are looking for a dedicated localisation coordinator to oversee this process.

The Position

In a sentence, you will be responsible for continuously bringing new languages online by actively coordinating between external service providers and internal stakeholders who manage textual content.

In more detail, you will be asked to:

Launch New Languages

  • Support in the hiring and management of external Language Managers, who provide us with linguistic and stylistic expertise for each language;
  • Coordinate with our office manager for the appropriate administration of these relationships (job descriptions, contracts, invoices, etc);
  • Oversee the timely and effective preparation and update of language specific Style Guides by the Language Managers;
  • Maintain and control an effective and rational pipeline of texts for translation, review and upload.
  • Identify and overcome inefficiencies in the system

Maintain Existing Languages

  • Once you have taken control of the new language localisation process, you will need to build from scratch and continuously refine an effective cross-departmental language review process.

Job requirements

The Successful Candidate

To achieve this, you will need to be:

  • Experienced in online product localisation, and have a proven understanding of the importance of UX considerations in localisation;
  • Organised with a clear attention to detail;
  • Able to build trusting and effective relationships across cultures and in many cases through remote communication methods;
  • Process oriented, building and maintaining systems accessible to all;

We are open to a wide range of applicants for this position, with no specific educational requirements, however any points on the following list will make you a strong applicant:

  • Academic linguist in one or more languages;
  • Experience as a translator;
  • Experience in managing remote teams.

Organisational set-up

This position is expected to start on the 1st October 2020, which can be flexible. Interviews are planned for the first two weeks of September.

Remote candidates may be considered but a desk in the Ferryhopper office in Athens will be available. Remote candidates would need to be able to visit Athens regularly and prove an ability to integrate with the team effectively.

We are looking for a full time candidate, but consultants can also be considered under clearly managed timelines, with an ability to provide full-time support during certain periods of the year.
